The assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative leader and activist of the MAGA movement, continues to reveal details about the profile of the alleged assailant, Tyler Robinson, 22 years old, who was arrested in Utah after an intensive FBI manhunt.
As the investigation progresses, the accused's grandmother, Debbie Robinson, spoke with the British tabloid Daily Mail and asserted that the family has always been Republican and a strong supporter of President Donald Trump.
"My son, his father, is a Republican because of Trump. Most of my relatives are as well. I don’t know any who are Democrats," stated the 69-year-old woman.
She also said she was "confused" by what happened and described her grandson as "the shyest boy," someone who never talked to her about politics.
Confirmed profile of Tyler Robinson
Robinson lives in Washington County, Utah, and was enrolled in a technical electricity program at Dixie Technical College, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.
There are no official records confirming that he/she pursued a university degree in engineering or that he/she had a perfect academic average, as has been circulated on social media and in some media outlets.
In his family environment, his father, Matt Robinson, was a key figure in the arrest. After recognizing him in the images released by the FBI, he confronted him, and he confessed his involvement in the crime.
Given the risk that her son might attempt suicide, she sought help from a nearby pastor and alerted federal authorities. The arrest took place on Thursday night, following several days of operation.
Voting records show that Tyler was registered as a nonpartisan voter, while his parents are registered Republicans, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, stated that in recent years the young man “had become more political” and had even expressed to family members his rejection of Kirk.
Recovered evidence
The police recovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near Utah Valley University, where Kirk was shot while participating in a public event.
Cartridges with inscriptions related to internet phrases and references to digital culture were also found. According to Reuters, it is still unclear whether these messages reflect specific ideological motivations or are merely expressions connected to online culture.
Rumors and speculations
Various media outlets and social media users have speculated about the alleged connection of Robinson with the extremist movement known as "groypers," followers of Nick Fuentes. However, so far there is no verified evidence linking him directly to that group.
There have also been reports of a possible relationship with a transgender roommate, which may have influenced his radicalization, but authorities have not confirmed that information.
Similarly, the alleged connections to video games such as Helldivers 2 and "antifa" messages are part of interpretations not supported by solid evidence.
In contrast, what is confirmed is the existence of messages on Discord provided by a housemate, in which Robinson discussed a rifle and his plans. Discord clarified in a statement that the platform was not used to plan or promote the attack.
Judicial and political consequences
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and criminal use of a firearm. President Donald Trump described the crime as "atrocious" and expressed hope that the accused is sentenced to death, which is legally in effect in Utah.
The case has not only shaken the university community and the conservative movement in the United States, but it has also exposed how rumors surrounding the identity and motivations of the attacker spread rapidly, forcing media and authorities to clarify which information is confirmed and which remains speculation.
