A traffic accident that occurred this Thursday on Infanta Street, Central Havana, resulted in one fatality and several serious injuries, according to reports from witnesses on social media.

The page on Facebook “La Tijera” reported that, “according to user Reinier Emilio López, who was at the scene, there were not 3 motorcycles, there were 2, and one person died instantly, all due to the irresponsibility of a driver who swerved to avoid the pothole in that location.”

According to Cubanet, the number of fatalities from traffic accidents in Cuba rose by 18% during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period the previous year.

Between January and March of this year, 173 fatalities were reported, 27 more than in the same period of 2024, when 146 deaths were recorded.

"The main causes of these accidents in the country continue to be the lack of maintenance of road infrastructure, the outdated state of the vehicle fleet—with cars that have been in use for over four decades—and human errors, such as disregard for traffic regulations or negligent driving," the media outlet added.

A traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday at kilometer 293 of the central highway, in the Antón Díaz area at the entrance of Santa Clara, resulted in one man injured and a minor who was taken to the hospital, according to the local state-run media Soy Villa Clara.

The accident occurred when a scooter lost control and overturned, causing the driver to suffer head injuries and severe pain in the right shoulder.

Witnesses indicated that the highest authorities of the province, who were passing by at that moment, immediately stopped and alerted the emergency services of the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Hospital.
