The Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro has lashed out at YouTube following the recent suspension of his official channel on the platform.

“ The owners of YouTube failed, people still watch me on YouTube, delete all the accounts of mine you want, imperialist fools,” said the leader in statements broadcast through the state network VTV.

"The more censorship there is, the more the message gets through. Keep up the censorship, imperialist fools of YouTube, I congratulate those who made the decision, productivity bonus for fools, for everyone," he added.

On September 19th, the official channel of the Venezuelan dictator was removed from YouTube.

The account, which had over 233,000 subscribers, is available on search engines, but when attempting to access it, YouTube indicates that the requested account "is not available."

The platform has not provided any explanations regarding this, and on the other hand, the multinational channel controlled by Chavismo, Telesur, attributed the removal to the "hybrid war" of the U.S.

Tension with the U.S.

These events occur amid rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela, following the recent deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean with the stated objective of combating drug trafficking.

United States has increased its military presence in the region: at least eight ships and more than 4,000 personnel have been deployed, along with F-35 fighters in Puerto Rico.

The Trump administration accuses Maduro of leading the so-called Cartel of the Suns and maintains a reward of 50 million dollars for information leading to his capture, an accusation that the Venezuelan government rejects.

Possible military actions

This Saturday it was revealed that U.S. officials are developing options to execute attacks against drug traffickers within Venezuela, a measure that could be activated in weeks and would represent a new escalation in the military campaign driven by the Trump Administration.

According to four sources cited by NBC News, President Trump has not yet given final approval. According to these sources —two U.S. officials and two people familiar with the discussions— the plans focus on drone operations targeting members and leaders of criminal networks, as well as strikes on drug labs.

The White House referred to a previous statement by Trump ("we'll see what happens... it's unacceptable"), while the Pentagon declined to comment to that outlet.

The possible move to attack on Venezuelan territory comes after recent actions in the Caribbean, where the U.S. claims to have sunk at least three vessels from Venezuela allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

Washington has not provided evidence that all of them transported narcotics; however, authorities in the Dominican Republic stated that drugs were found in the water following one of the incidents.

Part of the momentum, according to the Administration, is due to Nicolás Maduro "not having done enough" to curb the flow of drugs.
