Amid one of the worst economic, social, and migratory crises in the history of Cuba, there are still those who, in a severe case of ideological blindness, enthusiastically celebrate the political structures of the regime.

This is the case of Circunscripción 124 in the municipality of Ciego de Ávila, where the 65th anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) was commemorated with a stew, music, and acts of exaltation for the system.

During the event, the boy Cristian Otero Nuñez, winner of the National Contest "Martí desde mi Barrio," was awarded a bicycle in what was presented as a recognition of his "commitment to the CDR."

This was shared on social media by Alba Domínguez Gálvez, a passionate promoter of the event, who enthusiastically celebrated the "neighborhood pride" represented by the awards.

The Cederista celebration included the preparation of a hearty stew "made with Cederista love," decoration of the block, sale of products by various state entities, and a performance by soloist Estrellita Vergara from the MUSICAVILA catalog.

Also participating were the small and medium enterprises La Ceiba, Las Delicias, Mi Industria La Candelaria, and the state company Confecciones TREBOL, said the prominent cederista Domínguez with great enthusiasm on Facebook.

While the majority of Cuban families face food shortages, prolonged blackouts, and rampant inflation, these events demonstrate how the ideological apparatus of the regime still manages to symbolically mobilize sectors of the population to keep alive a narrative of revolutionary commitment, even if that means distributing bicycles in the name of the homeland.

In recent weeks, the CDR have intensified their role as a tool of social control on the island. One of the most recent calls was to increase surveillance against potential protests, in a context characterized by public discontent and the deepening of the crisis.

Meanwhile, Gerardo Hernández, the national coordinator of the organization, has used his public figure to reinforce propaganda. A few days ago, he led an event where he stated that Cubans must take on the challenge of "demonstrating" their revolutionary commitment, as reflected in the coverage of his call for ideological loyalty.

Even amidst blackouts, inflation, and shortages, the CDR has maintained symbolic celebrations. The most recent one included parties organized in the midst of crisis, featuring food, music, and political speeches, demonstrating how the official apparatus continues to rely on ideological exaltation to counteract the rising discontent among citizens.
