The city of Morón, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, woke up this Tuesday with multiple flooded areas after the heavy rains recorded last night, which once again highlighted the deficiencies of the urban drainage system.

The floods affected not only Morón but also other towns in northern Avilés, where several streets and homes were temporarily submerged, making transportation difficult and impacting the residents, according to reports on social media.

According to the Cuban Meteorological Institute, cited by the page "Ciego de Ávila Información," the rainfall was associated with intense bands of rain that moved across the central region of the country.

The MSc. Ailyn Justiz Águila, a specialist from the institution, confirmed the phenomenon and its intensity during the night.

Images shared by residents on social media show streets completely flooded and affected residential areas, leading to concern among citizens about the lack of maintenance of the drainage systems and the vulnerability of the infrastructure to increasingly frequent weather events.

The journalist Andis Rodríguez García reported from the scene, pointing out that many areas remain flooded and no concrete actions have been reported by local authorities to address the situation.

It is expected that in the coming hours, the weather conditions will improve, although monitoring will continue for possible new rain.

Just two days ago, several Cuban cities experienced severe flooding, and landslides related to heavy rainfall were reported in Havana.
