The University of Ciego de Ávila Máximo Gómez Báez acknowledged this Thursday that a group of graduates from the 2024–2025 course received diplomas with incorrect registration data, and announced that it is working on their immediate replacement.
Through an official statement published on their Facebook page, the institution explained that the cause was "a technical failure in the design system" used for printing, which resulted in discrepancies in fields such as the folio, volume, and title number.
University authorities stated that the error is the sole responsibility of the institution and does not affect the legal validity of the degrees or the academic rights of the graduates.
However, several students have expressed their concern about the impact this could have on subsequent procedures.
After detecting the failure, analyses were conducted to determine the scope of the problem and the specific impacts.
The General Secretariat confirmed that the new titles are already being corrected, signed, and formally validated, and that they will be delivered as soon as possible.
The situation has caused discomfort among the graduates. In the Facebook group Revolico de Ciego de Ávila todo barato, a young man identified as Eliezer García Delgado, a graduate in Agronomy in 2025, publicly denounced what had occurred.
"There were several faculties whose degrees were issued with errors both in the record sheet and the registration number of the General Secretariat, as well as in the volume and page of the Secretariat of some faculties," he wrote.
García Delgado noted that they are not looking for culprits, but rather clear answers: “What we seek is the unity of all affected graduates to face this situation together and obtain our new diploma, as is our right.”
He also said, "The title is awarded once in a lifetime, but it is given properly. We have no reason to bear the burden of someone else's mistake."
The young man also accused the university authorities of having handed over the documents knowing they contained errors, and even of ordering that the incident not be mentioned "so that panic wouldn't spread."
As a result of this complaint, the affected graduates have started to organize through a WhatsApp group, with the aim of channeling their demands collectively.
Just a few days ago, another scandal spread through social media, involving another institution of higher education in Cuba. Thesis projects, research, books, and catalogs belonging to the academic legacy of the Instituto Superior de Diseño Industrial (ISDI) were found discarded like trash in Parque Carlos J. Finlay, in Havana, an event that has sparked outrage among former students, professionals in the field, and defenders of cultural heritage.
