Several world leaders have congratulated President Donald Trump on the announcement of a historic peace agreement in Gaza, reached between Israel and Hamas after weeks of intense negotiations mediated by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his support on social media: “I spoke with my friend, President Trump, and congratulated him on the success of the historic peace plan for Gaza. We also reviewed the progress in trade negotiations.”

From the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Keir Starmer celebrated "the announcement of the agreement on the first phase of Trump's peace plan for Gaza," while the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, described the pact as an opportunity to achieve lasting peace.

He emphasized that “All hostages must be safely released. A permanent ceasefire must be established. The suffering must come to an end.”

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, also joined in with messages of support: “Great hope for the hostages and their families, for the Palestinians in Gaza, and for the entire region. I appreciate the efforts of President Trump and the mediators who made this possible.”

Similarly, the Argentine Javier Milei congratulated Trump and stated that if he confirms peace, he would deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

The agreement, officially announced by Trump on Wednesday, establishes the exchange of 48 Israeli hostages (most of whom are deceased) for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

It also includes a technical withdrawal of the Israeli army to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

The first phase of the plan will be executed from Sharm el Sheij, Egypt, where the delegations of the parties have been gathering.

The ceasefire will take effect 24 hours after the Israeli government ratifies the agreement. "ALL the hostages will be released very soon," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social

The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, played a key role in the negotiations.

It was he who, during an event in Washington, quietly handed the president a note informing him that the agreement was "very close."

Hours later, Trump publicly confirmed the news and announced that he might travel to the region in the coming days.

Spontaneous celebrations were reported in the streets of Gaza and in several cities in Israel following the announcement.

However, the forum representing the families of the hostages in Israel urged caution and demanded that the government approve the agreement immediately, warning that any delay could be fatal for the hostages still alive.

On its part, Hamas confirmed the agreement but expressed doubts about its fulfillment by the Israeli government, requesting guarantees from Trump and the mediating countries to prevent the resumption of bombings once the hostages are released.

The next step will be more complex: it involves the formation of a Palestinian technocratic government, the initiation of the reconstruction of Gaza and the gradual disarmament of Hamas, as revealed by Marco Rubio.

The maps of the Israeli military withdrawal have not yet been released, and details are expected to be made public in the coming hours.
