The former Cuban spy and national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, criticized on his social networks those who speak out against the Cuban regime.

In a message posted on X, he shared a video of people living under a bridge in the United States and pointed out: “This is not in the ‘third world’, but in Oakland, California. Yet those who constantly criticize blockaded Cuba and portray ‘la Yuma’ as the earthly paradise surely have their justifications...”

Hernández tries to juxtapose images of poverty in the United States with the situation in Cuba, but the comparisons prove to be unsustainable.

On the island, millions of Cubans are facing a much graver structural crisis, marked by food shortages, runaway inflation, and the collapse of the healthcare system.

While in the U.S. poverty coexists with real opportunities for progress and freedom, in Cuba misery is a direct consequence of a system that represses and impoverishes. Dozens of families survive in crumbling housing for decades, without access to basic services or hope for improvement.

Hernández's attempt to justify the regime's disaster only highlights the cynicism and disconnection of those in power from the suffering of the Cuban people.
