Janet Díaz, a Camagüey mother whose daughter is suffering from dengue, reported an alleged case of corruption involving Zadiel Estrada Curbelo, director of the Electric Company of Camagüey

“This complaint is being made public and I am not hiding behind any fake profile. Zadiel Estrada, director of the Electric Company of Camagüey, explain to me how it is possible that all of Camagüey is in blackout with only two or three hours of electricity, while General Gómez at the corner of Damas Medio has been without power for three days. What a coincidence that your father and family live on that street,” said the woman in a comment on Facebook recovered by opposition member Saúl Manuel.

Díaz reported that it is the block where the official's family lives.

"Corrupt, I also have family; my 6-year-old daughter is suffering from dengue. My neighborhood is full of it. My daughter spent the entire night crying from the heat with the rash. We have to sleep with the windows open at the mercy of the mosquitoes," he said.

The woman lashed out at Estrada Curbelo for taking advantage during such a distressing moment.

"How much longer are we going to allow corrupt leaders like you to keep abusing the working people? All I have left to say to you is corrupt and incompetent. That's called an abuse of power, but your day is coming, and we'll see what you do on the day that Cuba is free," he concluded.

On Saturday, Cuba continued to experience blackouts while the eastern part of the country prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Melissa.

According to the report from the Electric Union, on Saturday the service was disrupted for 24 hours and remained affected throughout the early hours of this Sunday.

The maximum impact due to a generation capacity deficit yesterday was 1809 MW at 7:50 PM, they specified.
