The government of India dispatched 20 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba and Jamaica following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, as reported by the Indian Minister of External Affairs.
The shipment was carried out via a flight from the Indian Air Force (IAF), which departed from New Delhi with a cargo that includes the innovative Aarogya Maitri BHISHM Cube —a modular emergency healthcare unit— along with rehabilitation materials, food, basic supplies, medications, medical equipment, electric generators, temporary shelters, and hygiene kits.
The Aarogya Maitri BHISHM program is part of an international cooperation initiative aimed at enhancing the response capacity to health emergencies and natural disasters, extending Indian medical aid beyond its borders.
The term Aarogya Maitri, which means "friendship in health" in Hindi (aarogya = health; maitri = friendship), is used to provide quick and effective medical care in crisis-affected areas, both within Indian territory and in allied countries.
