The Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar pulled no punches following the results of the local elections held this Tuesday in the United States, where the Republican Party faced significant losses in key states such as New York, Virginia, and New Jersey.

In a post that quickly resonated on social media, Salazar expressed his frustration and alarm over what he sees as a dangerous loss of the Hispanic vote:

"I've been saying it for months. The Hispanics who fueled Trump's significant victory are leaving... and we are allowing it," asserted the Cuban-American congresswoman, referring to one of her criticisms of the current Administration: the deportation of Hispanic workers without criminal records.

"Last night, in New Jersey and Virginia, the Hispanic vote shifted more than 25 points to the LEFT," he warned next.

"These states can only be won if Hispanics stay with the Republican Party. Republicans: wake up. Faith. Family. Freedom. DIGNITY", he concluded.

These words have not only served as a wake-up call for your party but also as an explicit acknowledgment of the discontent that has begun to fracture the bond between the Republican Party and a community that was once one of its emerging strongholds.

Her final mention of "Faith. Family. Freedom. DIGNITY" has been interpreted by many as a nod to the so-called "Dignity Plan," a legislative proposal promoted by Salazar herself and designed to provide a pathway to regularization for undocumented immigrants.

A flood of reactions: Outrage, skepticism, and ultimatums

The congresswoman's statement generated thousands of responses, which mostly ranged from outrage to disappointment. The most repeated message was that the Republican Party has lost Hispanic support because it has stopped defending it.

A citizen summed it up clearly: "Do you know how many of your voters are suffering today because they have a family member detained... Support those families and it’s very likely you will be reelected."

Many highlighted the dissonance between traditional republican values and the current reality of their immigration policies.

"They have treated us as if we are not human beings. It hurts me to see when they throw our people to the ground. Our people are not criminals," wrote another user.

The image of family separation, indiscriminate raids, and detentions of individuals with pending legal proceedings was a recurring theme in the comments.

Another user was more direct:

"Fortunately, they are starting to realize. You can't harm a community and think that its children and family members will vote again in favor of those who offend them."

The general sentiment can be summarized in a recurring phrase: “They are reaping what they sowed.”

The Hispanic vote as a protest vote

The recent local elections revealed a phenomenon that some analysts had already anticipated: the Hispanic vote has begun to act as a punitive vote. Comments such as:

"Hispanics have undocumented families who are suffering from persecution... Republicans will continue to lose votes."

...reflect a widespread sentiment. The vote is no longer cast solely based on ideological affinity, but rather in response to the treatment received. Many expressed not only their estrangement from the Republican Party, but also their rejection of figures like Donald Trump and those, like Salazar, who have supported him:

"When one supports Trump, one loses their dignity."

The demand for the Dignity Plan and unmet promises

A recurring theme in the responses is the demand for a lack of tangible legislative action.

Many of Salazar's supporters reminded him of his promise to promote the Dignity Plan, which many see as the last hope for reconciliation between Republicans and the immigrant community

Others were more critical, alluding to a sense of betrayal: "They promised immigration solutions and what they have done is treat people like animals. That is the result."

Is this the beginning of the end of MAGA hegemony among Hispanics?

The reactions also revealed a deeper phenomenon: the exhaustion of the extreme right narrative among Latinos. The use of faith, anti-communism, and the discourse of law and order was denounced as tools of manipulation.

A phrase was repeated like a mantra and a verdict: "Without the support of Latinos, they are nothing."

In this context, the defeat in traditionally Democratic states was seen not as a surprise, but as a warning. As one user said:

"If you thought you could mistreat our people and that we would continue voting for you, you were very mistaken."

Trump admits to Republican defeat in local elections and assigns blame

In a pivotal electoral day that served as a barometer for the American political landscape, Donald Trump has publicly acknowledged the Republican Party's defeat in several state and local elections held this Tuesday in six states across the country.

However, far from taking direct responsibility, the U.S. president has pointed to external factors and strategic absences as causes of the Republican setbacks.

Through his network Truth Social, Trump responded with a mix of resignation and reproach.

"TRUMP WAS NOT ON THE BALLOT AND THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN WERE THE TWO REASONS WHY REPUBLICANS LOST THE ELECTIONS TONIGHT, ACCORDING TO ELECTORAL ANALYSTS," he wrote in uppercase, a characteristic style of his more emphatic posts.

The comment reflects his usual strategy of shifting the focus of responsibility onto external factors, in this case, his absence from the ballots and the prolonged federal government shutdown, which created uncertainty and tension among the electorate.
