The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, head of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), responded this Wednesday to the attacks from the regime's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who described him on social media as a “delinquent,” “abuser,” and “violator of human rights” after learning of his meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In a message posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter), the regime's chancellor wrote that "It is no surprise that the Secretary of State of #USA meets with criminals, abusers of women and the vulnerable, notorious violators of #HR, frauds who self-flagellate to blame others, and who disguise themselves as 'opponents' to enrich themselves with the enemy's money."
The statements by Rodríguez sparked a wave of criticism and reactions on social media, where numerous users and activists condemned what they described as a new attack by the regime against its opponents.
Ferrer did not take long to respond to the chancellor, stating, “Nothing pleases me more than the angry attack and slander from the minister of Foreign Affairs of the most criminal, infamous, and corrupt tyranny our continent has ever known. What would really upset me is if you were to pay me a compliment. It's a good thing you couldn't control yourself.”
“I’ll give you some sound advice: have your bags ready, the people can no longer tolerate you and will throw you out at any moment. Where will you go, to Russia or China? Don’t think about Venezuela; Maduro will fall before you do,” he emphasized at the end of his response.
The opponent, who was recently honored in Washington with the Freedom Award, reaffirmed his commitment to the fight for democracy and the release of political prisoners in Cuba.
Ferrer’s statements come amid a campaign of attacks from the Cuban regime's propaganda apparatus against activists and independent journalists, following his series of meetings with U.S. officials to address repression, the humanitarian crisis, and the deterioration of human rights on the island.
