A 35-year-old Cuban citizen was injured on Friday after being run over by an urban transport vehicle on Route 311 while on his way to work at a gas station located at the intersection of Colón and Bernardo Reyes avenues in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
The accident occurred around 9:00 AM, on the borders of the Industrial neighborhood, according to local media such as Voxpopulinoticias MX, MVS Noticias, and Telediario.
According to the initial reports from Civil Protection in Monterrey, the cyclist, riding a 16-inch youth bike, was struck by a bus while attempting to cross at a traffic light, allegedly when it was red. After the impact, he fell to the pavement and sustained a head injury.
Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross and Civil Protection of Monterrey arrived at the scene and administered treatment, applying a compressive bandage to stop the bleeding before transferring him to Hospital 21 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). His condition was reported as stable, though he remains under medical observation.
The bus driver stopped immediately after the accident and waited for the Monterrey Mobility authorities to give his statement. The incident caused traffic congestion in the area for several minutes while assistance was provided and the bicycle was removed.
So far, no further details have been provided regarding the identity of the injured Cuban or any potential sanctions against the public transport operator. Local authorities are continuing the investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident.
