A Cuban girl living in Birán, Holguín, asked for help on social media after Hurricane Melissa destroyed the roof of her house.

“Help me, look at my little house, look at how the cyclone destroyed all of this. I have no food and I can’t take it anymore, give me money to buy food. Look at my house in ruins,” the girl can be heard saying in a Facebook video, as she shows the roof that the hurricane lifted.

"Look at my grandparents, they have no clothes or shoes, help us, give us money. Please, help me, I am a child of God," she says at another moment, and the camera focuses on her elderly grandparents.

The video was shared on Facebook by the opposition figure José Daniel Ferrer, who lamented the situation of the girl living in "the same place where the tyrants Fidel and Raúl Castro were born, the ones responsible for the oppression and extreme misery in our homeland."

"Anyone who knows about this and other similar cases should bring them to light or send them to us so we can publish them. Thank you," the exiled opposition figure added.

The hurricane Melissa left a devastating toll in Holguín, with around 7,500 damaged homes across all municipalities in the province, including more than 400 total collapses and the rest with partial damage, according to provincial authorities.

The head of the Construction subgroup,  Rodolfo Bárzaga Mena, reported last Friday that teams of workers are engaged in the collection of debris, rehabilitation of infrastructures, and delivery of construction materials, prioritizing health centers, schools, and families without homes.

From the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas, 10,000 asbestos and zinc tiles and 5,000 asphalt tiles are being transported, intended for the repair of partial and total collapses.

According to the official press, Holguín has reported over 435,000 damages caused by the intense rains, winds, and floods that affected all of its municipalities, with the greatest impact in Urbano Noris and Cacocum.

More than 290,000 people were evacuated during the hurricane's passage, and 856 remain sheltered in 16 centers set up in various municipalities.

Until November 5th, 94 out of 203 affected electrical circuits had been restored, which represents 56.7% of the customers (approximately 197,000 users). Meanwhile, communications had been restored by 65.4%.

In the case of water supply, 117 out of the 228 damaged pumps were already operational, while 407,000 of the 724,000 customers of the aqueduct had access to the service.
