The death of a 29-year-old man in Cárdenas, who presumably took his own life, has caused shock in the community.

It is about a young man named Lázaro, known as El Máscara, recognized in the city of Matanzas as “a cheerful, party-loving guy, one who was always around,” commented on Facebook content creator Christian Arbolaez.

"Cárdenas woke up to a different kind of silence. The kind of silence that weighs heavy, that aches, that seems to freeze time. The news spread from mouth to mouth and from wall to wall: Lázaro, known by many as El Máscara, is no longer here," reads the post.

Arbolaez also shared the testimonies of people close to the deceased.

"One of his friends wrote through tears: 'You didn't take your life, life took it from you... it took away more than a friend, it took away a brother,'" he said.

"Each birthday will no longer be the same for me," added the friend quoted by the communicator, who shared with the deceased "not only friendship but also the birthday on March 20, a date that will now be forever marked."

"Lázaro was one of those young people who leave a mark without intending to, those who spread life, those who you feel will always be there. Today, his friends, family, and an entire community come together with a shared wish: that his soul rests in peace and that, from wherever he may be, he continues to watch over his loved ones with the same energy with which he lived each of his days," Arbolaez added.

"From this page, we send our sincerest condolences to his mother and closest relatives, with our hearts full of sorrow. May the memory of Lázaro—the Mask of so many moments—remain alive among those who loved him," he concluded.

Among the comments on the post, some took the opportunity to say farewell to the young man: "At a loss for words, rest in peace Mascara. We will never forget you, always with your jokes and your speech impediment. We will carry you in our hearts; may God keep you in a beautiful place."

Also from his cousin Sandra González: “RIP cousin, there are no words to describe such great pain. My condolences to your mom, who will feel it deeply, and may God take you to the most beautiful place next to your grandmother. Rest in peace.”

This Saturday, the station Radio Angulo, in Holguín, reported the passing of Elioneris Leyva Reyes, a young director of Radio Juvenil Cuba and a fifth-year Social Communication student, whose death has caused shock in the radio and university community of that province.

Leyva Reyes reportedly took his own life on the night of October 30, amid the difficult days the region is facing due to the effects of Hurricane Melissa.
