The Cuban government announced a 'Round Table' for this Wednesday dedicated to the “epidemiological situation and the strategy to address it,” amid the growing mismanagement of the arboviruses affecting the country and the public's distrust of the regime's health management.
According to the official statement, officials from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) and "experts in arboviruses" will appear starting at 6:30 p.m. on Cubavisión, Radio Rebelde, and institutional channels, in a program aimed at “explaining the strategy” to address the crisis.
But the call comes right after the government itself acknowledged, for the first time, that the dengue and chikungunya epidemic is out of control, with active transmission in more than 30 municipalities and hospitals on the brink of collapse.
Analysts and citizens interpret this television appearance as an attempt to regain narrative control and pave the way for possible restrictive measures similar to those implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his latest meeting with scientists, the leader Miguel Díaz-Canel revealed that the response would be organized “just as we dealt with COVID,” a statement that has raised alarms about the possibility of partial quarantines or home isolations.
Far from calming concerns, the announcement reinforces the perception that the regime is responding with propaganda and centralization to a real health crisis, without providing transparent figures on infections, deaths, or the availability of medications.
Mientras el aparato mediático oficial se dispone a repetir consignas sobre “ciencia y disciplina”, en los hospitales faltan camas, sueros y médicos, y la población enfrenta sola una epidemia que el régimen cubano recién empieza a reconocer públicamente.
