The Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize 2025 laureate, María Corina Machado, stated this Wednesday that Venezuela is going through "decisive hours," amid the military deployment of the United States off the country's coast and the rising tensions with the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.
In a message delivered during a forum of the IDEA Group, held at Miami Dade College and attended by former Ibero-American leaders, Machado urged Venezuelans and the international community not to remain on the sidelines of what he described as a historic moment for Latin America.
"What is happening in Venezuela is not just a national issue; it is a turning point for all of Latin America," she stated. The opposition leader urged the democratic governments of the region to support the political change process, which, she said, would mark the beginning of "a profound and lasting transformation."
Machado emphasized that the country is “on the threshold of freedom” and assured that the transition will be “orderly, peaceful, and irreversible.”
En su intervención, detalló que, en caso de acceder al poder, asumirá de inmediato el control institucional y territorial, atenderá la emergencia humanitaria y promoverá transparencia en las finanzas públicas y reformas económicas profundas.
"From day one, we will establish order, address the crisis, and build a transparent government that restores trust to Venezuelans," he stated, while emphasizing that citizen unity is "the guarantee of a peaceful transition."
The meeting featured the participation of figures such as José María Aznar, Álvaro Uribe, and Osvaldo Hurtado, who debated alongside Machado the democratic challenges in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
The opposition leader warned that the international community must remain vigilant against the threat of violent repression by the regime, while the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford operates near the Venezuelan coast as part of Washington's strategy against drug trafficking and transnational crime.
"Venezuela has the conditions to become the Latin American miracle of the 21st century," asserted Machado, insisting that the change will be peaceful, but inevitable.
