The family of Cuban reggaeton artist Yosvanis Sierra Hernández, known professionally as Chocolate MC, released a video in which the artist himself admits to having used drugs since the age of 16, a piece that they have incorporated as evidence in the case he faces in the United States for death threats against Damian Valdez.
According to the material disseminated by journalist Javier Díaz (Univisión 23), the aim of the associates is to document the singer's substance use history amidst the ongoing trial.
In the recording, the reggaeton artist states: “I have been using crack since I was 16”, and specifies that he doesn't do it “in a pipe or in a can,” but “smoked with weed”—a method that, according to him, “is the same”—while talking with his family and answering questions about his age and background.
The exchange, of an intimate tone, also captures moments in which the repairman explains that he made the decision to “just say it” because “it was too much already.”
The video also notes that Chocolate was admitted to the Psychiatric Hospital of Havana (Mazorra), specifically in the "walls room," a space where —it points out— “Maradona was also admitted,” thus drawing a precedent of psychiatric care prior to his current legal situation. The family emphasizes these details to reinforce the timeline and the persistence of his addiction.
According to the information shared in the report, if the jury finds him guilty of the charges he faces, the musician could spend the rest of his life in prison.
This criminal exhibition frames the dissemination of the video, which his associates present as a direct testimony from the accused himself regarding his early substance use and episodes of mental health issues, aspects they consider relevant for understanding his personal history.
The material was published by the family and shared on the social media of journalist Javier Díaz, where the attendees can be heard questioning the artist —“How old are you?”— and him responding about his current age and the years of use, providing audiovisual evidence that has now been included in the file.
The trial against the Cuban reggaeton artist began this Monday in Miami under significant media attention and marked by a strong warning from the presiding judge regarding death threats against Valdez.
During the first hearing, Judge Milton Hirsch warned Chocolate that, if found guilty by the jury, he could face a life sentence, as revealed by local media.
According to witnesses present, the judge explicitly asked him if he understood the seriousness of the legal situation he was facing. Chocolate, visibly serious, replied that he did.
Dressed in a blue suit and a red tie, the reggaeton artist listened quietly to the charges being read and confirmed to the magistrate that his lawyer had explained each point of the accusation to him, although he added that "they make no sense."
