A joint operation by the Attorney General's Office and the State Security Secretariat of Mexico allowed the securing of a property in the municipality of Coyotepec, where vehicles and stolen merchandise worth more than nine million pesos were found. Five men were arrested during the action, including two of Cuban nationality, according to the newspaper Milenio.
According to the official statement, agents executed a search warrant at a property located in the La Planada neighborhood, where several dry boxes, tractor-trailers, and trucks reported as stolen were found, some loaded with hygiene products, mattresses, soft drinks, and items of Chinese origin. The commercial value of the seized goods was estimated at 9.15 million pesos.
The detainees were identified as Francisco “N”, Eric Daniel “N”, Alejandro “N”, Maikol “N”, and Dairon “N”, the last two of whom, according to Milenio, are of Cuban nationality. All have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which will determine their legal status in the coming hours.
The investigation originated following the report of the theft of a Kenworth tractor-trailer with a dry box loaded with hygiene products. According to the inquiries, the victim was intercepted on November 5 in the municipality of Tepotzotlán, where several men threatened her with firearms, deprived her of the vehicle, and held her captive for approximately three hours.
The investigation into the case led the Public Prosecutor's Office to request a search warrant, which allowed them to locate the property in Coyotepec, where, in addition to the stolen truck, other vehicles with active reports were found.
Six dry boxes with altered identification markings were also found at the location, along with four tractor-trailers, three flatbed trucks, and one dolly-style vehicle, all loaded with stolen goods.
The State of Mexico, where the operation took place, is one of the regions with the highest logistical and industrial activity in the country. Its strategic location, connecting with the Mexican capital and important transportation corridors, makes it a key point for the transit of goods.
However, this same condition has also made it one of the areas most affected by cargo transportation theft, a common crime that impacts both large companies and small carriers.
Mexican authorities stated that the five individuals in custody are being investigated for their alleged involvement in express kidnapping for the purpose of robbery, while further proceedings continue to determine if they are connected to other gangs involved in cargo transport theft in the area.
