The Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric power plant in Matanzas was synchronized to the National Electric System (SEN) this Thursday with an initial load of 44 megawatts (MW), after making technical adjustments to its operational configuration.
The information was confirmed by the plant itself on its official Facebook page, where it was specified that the synchronization occurred at 14:59 hours, after completing the scheduled configuration change.
The largest thermoelectric plant in the country had once again gone offline from the National Electric System last Saturday at 2:30 AM due to light maintenance, according to official sources.
According to the authorities, the maintenance was expected to "last for about four days." Rubén Campos Olmo, the general director of the industry, stated that more than 500 corrective actions would be undertaken.
Initially, it was expected that the thermoelectric plant would be synchronized on Wednesday, but that did not happen, and it finally succeeded in connecting to the system this Thursday, amidst many prayers regarding how long it will last this time.
Although it is currently generating 44 MW, the regime recently promised to double the generation, from 120 to 240 MW.
However, that figure does not represent a real increase, but rather the recovery of the generation level that the plant should achieve under normal conditions.
The Antonio Guiteras thermal power plant is scheduled for general maintenance at the end of 2025, a crucial action aimed at ensuring its efficiency and increasing its generation capacity.
