The Cuban influencer Jonathan Montalvo, known on social media as @JonathanFlow23, shared a touching video recorded at the Paseo del Prado in Havana, where he highlights the harsh reality of an eight-year-old boy surviving on the streets.
The little boy lives in Mantilla with his 81-year-old grandmother, while his parents are in prison. He travels every day to Centro Habana, using whatever transport he can find, to earn money in the busiest areas of the city.
In the video, which has quickly gone viral on social media, Montalvo talks to the young boy and asks him, "Why are you on the street barefoot?"
The child's response left thousands of users speechless: "My mom and dad are in jail because they were caught selling marijuana. My grandma is the one taking care of me, but she's very old, she's 81 years old, that's why I have to go out to look for food."
The influencer, visibly moved, decided to help the child by giving him food items such as fruits and powdered milk, as well as personal belongings.
"This video broke my heart. I think I could have helped that barefoot boy in Havana even more, with his parents in prison and an elderly grandmother," Jonathan wrote in his post.
The little one has been living away from his parents for three years, does not receive social assistance, and wanders the streets to find something to eat.
The case has sparked outrage, sadness, and messages of solidarity among the influencer's followers. Some have called for immediate action from the State in cases like this, which reflect the profound social and economic crisis facing Cuba and the institutional neglect of vulnerable families.
