Deep consternation shakes the residents of Luyanó, in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, following the death of a young man from a stab wound during an argument that started over a trivial matter.
The victim, identified as Carlexi, 24 years old, passed away early Tuesday morning after arriving in critical condition at La Benéfica hospital.
The incident, circulated on social media, has rekindled concerns among Cubans about the rising climate of violence in the country.
Carlexi, who lived in the Jesús María neighborhood of Old Havana - on Cárdenas Street, between Misión and Arsenal, in front of the Alcázar Hotel - was described as a calm young man, loved and respected by his community.
Her life had been marked by loss: her mother passed away last year, and although she had two sisters, one in the United States and another in Cuba, the family relationships were distant.
Neighbors say that his noble character contrasted with the harshness of an increasingly unsafe environment.
An absurd discussion that ended in tragedy
According to testimonies shared on social media, the young man had attended a birthday party in Luyanó. As he was leaving, an altercation occurred with an individual known as "el Capiro," who, according to witnesses, was not part of the celebration and had no connection to the victim.
The dispute reportedly started over something as trivial as a chair in a nearby café.
However, the lack of control, the hostile climate, and the violence that has become normalized on the streets ultimately escalated the situation to a fatal outcome.
In a matter of minutes, Carlexi was stabbed in the area of the heart. He was immediately transported to La Benéfica Hospital, but medical efforts could not save him.
So far, there has been no information on whether the alleged attacker has been arrested, and the community is urgently demanding justice and transparency.
A death that reflects social decay
The murder of Carlexi is not an isolated incident. It adds to a troubling chain of violent events affecting neighborhoods and cities across the country, where fights, assaults, and attacks with bladed weapons are becoming increasingly common.
As crime increases, citizens perceive that institutions, far from providing protection, remain absent or ineffective.
The outrage comes not only from the pain of a young life lost but also from the realization that the State has failed to ensure basic conditions of safety and coexistence.
The neighbors of Jesús María, and now also those in Luyanó, are not just mourning the death of a young man who, according to everyone, "was a good kid, quiet and hardworking."
They also express their fear of a social environment that has become unpredictable, impoverished, and lacking institutional restraint.
The death of Carlexi thus becomes a reflection of a Cuba where violence ceases to be exceptional and begins to be part of everyday life.
