Cuban priest arrested in Miami-Dade after a fight during a collection for Cuba

The father Jesús Gabriel Saldaña, recognized on the website of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church, was arrested in Miami-Dade on several charges, according to county court records.

The religious leader, born in Cuba and residing in the United States since 1987, is facing charges of breaking into an occupied vehicle, assaulting a person over 65 years old, and causing property damage under $200.

According to his lawyer, the pastor was in the parking lot of his parish collecting donations for Cuba, for the victims of Hurricane Melissa, when a dispute arose with another individual, allegedly over political advertisements regarding the island.

A judge found probable cause and set bail at $7,500, $5,000, and $150 for each charge the pastor is now facing. Authorities have not provided further details about the incident.
