Palm Beach surpasses Broward and Miami-Dade combined as the county with the highest migration activity in South Florida.
According to the CBS12 report, Palm Beach County has recorded over 750 immigration encounters since August, surpassing the combined activity of Broward and Miami-Dade.
The county has adopted the federal 287(g) program in its "Task Force" mode, which allows local officers, during their regular patrols, to carry out specific functions of immigration agents, the report specifies.
In Palm Beach is situated Mar-a-Lago, the mansion and private club of President Trump.
Of the 20 law enforcement agencies in the county, 19 have already signed 287(g) agreements with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including Delray Beach, which quietly adopted the procedure earlier this month.
In Florida, more than 300 law enforcement agencies use 287(g), nearly half of the approximately 600 that have adopted it nationwide.
CBS asserts that, although there is no state requirement to adopt the procedure, there are indeed political pressures for its adoption in the state.
According to the Sun Sentinel, Fort Myers and Key West have received letters from the Florida Attorney General's Office threatening elected officials with potential disqualification. In addition to these threats, the state government has offered financial incentives to the cities.
In mid-November, Florida launched over 200 undocumented foreign criminals, many of whom were sexual predators of minors, from Cuba and other countries, who were apprehended in Florida during “Operation Dirtbag,” executed jointly by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
The "Dirtbag Operation," officially named "Criminal Return Operation," lasted for 10 days and resulted in the arrest of at least 230 illegal immigrants with serious criminal records, including sex offenders, authorities from ICE and Florida police announced this Thursday at a press conference.
The operation led to the arrest of 54 sexual predators, 164 sex offenders, two convicted murderers, one individual convicted of drug trafficking, and eight accused of other serious crimes, reported Madison Sheahan, deputy director of ICE.
DeSantis stated that Florida has been “the most active state in the United States in the fight against illegal immigration”.
