A Cuban trans woman remains hospitalized in serious condition at the Río Carrión Hospital in Palencia, a municipality in Castilla y León, after surviving a brutal attack during the early hours of Wednesday, November 19, amid a previously arranged sexual encounter.

According to El Norte de Castilla, the woman suffered around 40 stab wounds and cuts, inflicted with a small kitchen knife by a man who was also a foreigner, approximately 35 years old.

The neighbors alerted the National Police after hearing desperate screams and a loud argument inside the home located on the central Calle Mayor. The officers had to break down the door with a battering ram to enter the property, where they found the victim seriously injured and the attacker still armed.

In another expanded version, Diario Palentino reported that the woman also showed signs consistent with an attempted strangulation, with a cord that broke before she was inflicted with dozens of stab wounds.

After receiving initial assistance in the apartment, she was transferred to the hospital, where she remains stable despite her serious condition. Sources cited by the same outlet detail that the assailant, a resident of Valladolid and an employee in the town of Dueñas, traveled to Palencia after arranging a sexual service with the victim.

The level of violence in the attack was such that even three officers were injured while trying to subdue the suspect, as reported by ABC, which also confirmed that upon entering the apartment, the police found a broken bottle and both individuals covered in blood.

Authorities currently rule out the possibility that this is a case of gender-based violence or a hate crime.

Both the Government's subdelegate, Eduardo Santiago, cited by El Norte de Castilla, and the National Police themselves indicated that there was no previous romantic relationship and that the meeting was prearranged, which distances it from these classifications. Nevertheless, the investigation remains ongoing.

The attacker was brought before a judge and, according to another report by Diario Palentino, was taken into provisional custody after exercising his right not to testify. His lawyer requested DNA evidence to determine if there was any type of aggression against him, although currently there are no indications to support that hypothesis.
