The Cuban political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso, sentenced for his participation in the protests of July 11, 2021 (11J), completed 38 days on hunger strike this Saturday and remains in critical condition, as reported by his wife, Mailin Sánchez

In the medical report at 8:00 a.m. on November 29, 2025, the doctors reported that Rosell “remains in critical health, with no specific diagnosis, although he showed a slight improvement in the color of his urine after drinking a bit more water during the night,” said the woman, who has reported her case to international human rights organizations.

Despite that small positive sign, the situation remains of high vital risk, due to the damage accumulated from more than five weeks without solid food intake.

“We continue in a prayer chain for this father. Every second is crucial to save his life,” wrote Sánchez in his post, accompanied by the tags #LibertadParaYosvanyRosellGarcíaCaso and #LibertadParaTodosLosPresosPolíticos.

Yosvany Rosell, father of three, was arrested in Holguín during the protests of July 11 and initially sentenced to 30 years in prison for “public disorder and contempt”, one of the highest sentences issued following those protests. Later, his sentence was reduced by half after an appeal.

Since his imprisonment, he has reported mistreatment, isolation, and lack of medical attention, which led him to declare a hunger strike in late October.

His family insists that the protest aims to draw attention to his prison situation and the lack of judicial response to his appeals.

"I don't believe in justice; it is blind, deaf, and mute. All I ask is that my husband does not die," his wife wrote the day before, when the doctors confirmed an acute renal failure after 37 days without food.

Organizations such as the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) and Prisoners Defenders reiterated this Saturday their urgent alert regarding Rosell's deteriorating physical condition and called for his immediate release on humanitarian grounds.

From Costa Rica, representatives of the Citizens' Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CCDDH) accompanied Sánchez in their appeal before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).

"The situation of Yosvany Rosell García is a symbol of the suffering of political prisoners in Cuba. Urgent international action is needed before it is too late," declared one of the committee's spokespersons.
