A Cuban resident in the United States shared on TikTok the contents of a shipment she is preparing for her family on the island, valued at about 60 dollars, which includes products from Walmart and Dollar Tree.
In the video, posted by user @melicapote, the young woman explains that almost all the purchases are intended for the children in her family — her nephews and her husband's children — who live in Cuba.
"I spent about 60 dollars on little purchases from Walmart to send to my family and my husband's family in Cuba. Almost everything is for the kids," the Cuban woman said as she displayed the items on a table.
Among the products, there are cookies, lollipops, shampoo for curly hair, styling spray, and the classic Nesquik chocolate powder, which, as he explained, "children use for milk so they don't need to add sugar."
It also included in the package some kitchen items and accessories for the celebration of her niece's second birthday, who will receive some of the gifts and decorations from abroad.
The video has garnered hundreds of views and comments from other Cubans living outside the island, many of whom relate to the practice of sending "paqueticos" with basic goods and treats, in response to the shortages and high prices affecting families in Cuba.
In recent years, the sending of remittances and packages from the United States has become one of the main forms of support for Cubans, amid an economic crisis exacerbated by inflation, food shortages, and the depreciation of the Cuban peso.
