The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, supported the operation ordered by President Donald Trump against narco-terrorist groups in the Caribbean and asserted that the country has the right to protect its sovereignty and national security.

In his statements, Rubio addressed the accusations that the operation would violate international law.

"It is interesting to me that all these countries want us to send Tomahawk missiles with nuclear capabilities to defend Europe, but when the United States positions aircraft carriers in our hemisphere, where we live, suddenly that becomes a problem," he noted.

The Secretary of State rejected the European Union's allegations regarding the alleged violation of international norms.

"I don't believe that the European Union should determine what international law is, and much less how the United States defends its national security," he stated.

Rubio insisted that the actions ordered by Trump are in response to a direct threat.

"The United States is under attack by criminal organizations of narco-terrorists in our hemisphere, and the president is acting in defense of our country," he said.

The Cuban-born politician added that the mission aims to eliminate groups that pose a risk to U.S. security.

"The president has made it very clear that his task is to protect the United States from any threat against the United States... and that is exactly what he is doing with this operation," Rubio emphasized.

The statements from the Secretary of State come after criticisms from some European governments and international organizations, which have questioned the legality of the U.S. intervention in the Caribbean.

Rubio stated that Washington will act "without asking for permission" and reaffirmed that national sovereignty prevails over any external attempts to limit the response to criminal threats.

Regarding this topic, Republican Congressman Carlos Giménez wrote on the platform X that “there is only one path: the complete annihilation of the Cartel of the Suns, the narco-terrorist group of Nicolás Maduro.”

The Cuban regime continues to watch with unease – and great concern – the increasing military pressure from the United States on Venezuela and the firm stance of Secretary of State Marco Rubio against the dictator Nicolás Maduro, a combination that, according to experts, could trigger a new economic blow for Havana.

According to a report from the agency EFE, the Cuban regime's alarm focuses on the possible political and economic repercussions of a change in power in Caracas, the island's main energy and financial ally.
