The opposition leader María Corina Machado thanked this Wednesday the support of the Cuban-American congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, whom she described as a “crucial ally in the fight for democracy and freedom in Venezuela.”

“Dear @MaElviraSalazar, thank you for being such a crucial ally in this fight. Your commitment to democracy and freedom has been vital, and the Venezuelan people have seen how you have stood shoulder to shoulder with us. It is an honor to have you with us in Oslo on this significant day for Venezuela and the entire region. Our deepest gratitude,” wrote Machado in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter).

On her part, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar responded with emotion, calling Machado “the bravest woman in the hemisphere” and announcing that she will accompany her to Oslo, Norway, next week, where the opposition leader will receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I am deeply honored to announce that @MariaCorinaYA, the bravest woman in the hemisphere, has invited me to accompany her in Oslo, Norway, as she makes history by receiving her Nobel Prize,” posted the congresswoman, who has been attacked by the Chavista regime that accuses her of links to drug trafficking.

"This is a monumental moment for the world to see what she and the Venezuelan people have endured in the face of Maduro's horrific regime. She has fought with truth and faith, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to stand by her side," she stated.

The presence of María Elvira Salazar at the ceremony has been celebrated by sectors of the Venezuelan and Cuban diaspora in the United States, who see in the alliance between the two figures a shared defense of freedom in Latin America.

Machado, leader of the Vente Venezuela movement, has led a strong civil resistance against the Maduro regime for years, denouncing corruption, repression, and human rights violations.
