Cuban authorities intercepted a vessel coming from Mexico with two Cuban citizens on board, allegedly to organize an illegal exit from the shores of Pinar del Río.

The official profile De Pinar Soy, associated with the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), reported this Thursday on Facebook that border guard forces, along with police officers and other local authorities, captured a boat arriving from abroad near Cabo de San Antonio, the westernmost point of Cuba.

According to the publication, the vessel was crewed by two Cuban citizens residing in Mexico, who had arrived on the island with the purpose of facilitating an illegal maritime exit.

Both are currently under arrest, indicated the regime's spokesperson profile.

The text added that those detained will face charges under Cuban law, which harshly sanctions unauthorized departures from the country.

The profile highlighted that, although migration "is not a crime when conducted within the legal framework," in the case of Cuba, the phenomenon "becomes especially difficult" due to the restrictions imposed by the United States, a statement that aligns with the official discourse of the regime regarding the causes of the exodus.

The authorities did not provide details about the identities of those involved, but witnesses cited by the webpage itself indicated that the operation was carried out in a coastal area that is difficult to access.

In recent months, operations by Cuban authorities against illegal maritime departures have intensified. Recently, the government confiscated several vessels found in Matanzas, which were hidden in coastal areas and were allegedly intended for illegal departures abroad.

Similarly, days ago it was reported that the Ministry of the Interior proceeded with the seizure of other boats found in various parts of the country, without providing details about the owners or their intended destination.

Authorities insisted that these findings are part of efforts to prevent actions deemed unlawful under national legislation.

Last year, MININT itself reported on the discovery of abandoned vessels in coastal areas, indicating that many of them are left behind after failed attempts at illegal human trafficking or when operations fail in the logistics of collecting migrants.
