The city of Miami has issued a warning regarding the risk of coastal flooding this weekend due to the phenomenon known as King Tides, which will peak on December 4 and 5, local authorities reported on Thursday.

The municipal government explained that the so-called King Tides are exceptionally high tides that occur predictably each year between September and November, although this time the effects will extend into early December.

These tides can cause what is known as “sunny day flooding,” when water floods streets and low areas even in the absence of rain.

According to information published on the official portal of the City of Miami, the most vulnerable areas are those close to canals, coastlines, and low-lying regions, where water can temporarily cover streets and residential yards.

“Stay alert and prepared,” stated the official account of the City of Miami on X, where authorities also shared resources and information to help residents protect themselves during high tide peaks.

The municipality recommended avoiding travel through flooded streets, protecting vehicles and properties located in prone areas, and staying informed about sea level conditions through official channels.

The King Tides of December mark the end of the annual high tide season in South Florida, a phenomenon that has become more frequent and severe in recent years due to rising sea levels.
