A family lost their home and belongings in a devastating fire that broke out on Tuesday night, following a prolonged blackout, in a neighborhood of the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana, according to citizen reports.
Cuban digital creators shared videos of the unfortunate incident on social media, which may have been caused by an electrical failure or a short circuit after electricity was restored following a 12-hour blackout.
This was documented on Instagram by the influencer Yarelys Herrera Díaz, who shared images of the fire and the remains of the home destroyed by the flames.
"After 12 hours of blackout, the power returned accompanied by the only light you don't want to see near your home, that of a fire," expressed the young woman, visibly saddened by what had happened.
Herrera stated that he is unaware of the causes of the incident, but he affirmed that those living in the house “suffered no physical harm”, including a man known as Danielón, whom she knows from the neighborhood.
He highlighted the intervention of the firefighters who arrived at the scene and "acted really quickly, I have to acknowledge that and give them all the credit," he emphasized. "I'm at a loss for words… how sad."
The humble house -built with blocks, zinc sheets, and wood, as can be seen in the images- was devastated by fire.
"I want to believe that this month wonderful things will happen, because after so much struggle and so many tears, good people deserve to thrive," the influencer expressed hopefully at the end of the video.
On Facebook, content creator Yerry Sanabia Padrón also documented the moments of anxiety experienced by the neighbors as the flames engulfed the building and threatened to spread to other houses in the neighborhood known as La Hata.
A huge column of smoke rose into the sky, and dozens of people watched anxiously as the situation unfolded, fearing that the worst could happen.
The images show the arrival of one of the fire trucks and their actions to extinguish the flames.
This tragic incident left a family in despair. So far, there has been no official information regarding the event, and it is unknown whether the affected individuals have received assistance from the authorities.
In recent weeks, several fires have been reported in the country. In one of these incidents, which occurred in a building in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality in the capital, one person lost their life.
Many fires are caused by electrical failures due to current fluctuations following blackouts, instability of the electrical system, inadequate infrastructure, and outdated wiring systems.
