A luxurious white Ford Mustang GT convertible was spotted this week cruising along the Malecón in Havana, as shown in photos and videos posted on TikTok by the user @descubriend0cuba.
The images, taken in front of the Grand Aston La Habana hotel, show the powerful American vehicle with Cuban license plate P277962, a detail that has surprised many internet users because it is a high-end model that can exceed 70,000 dollars in the international market.
In the video and photographs, the athlete is seen posing in front of the iconic seawall, while the author of the post adds the caption: "Achieving my goals."
The Mustang, a symbol of power and status, stands out in a country where the average state salary barely exceeds 4,000 Cuban pesos (about 15 dollars at the informal exchange rate), and where most of the population faces serious challenges in accessing food, fuel, and transportation.
The emergence of the car has sparked comments on social media about the growing inequality in Cuba, where a small elite connected to power or private businesses thrives while the majority of citizens struggle with blackouts, inflation, and a lack of opportunities.
Although the owner of the vehicle has not been identified, the incident highlights the increasingly visible economic divide on the island, where luxury cars stand in stark contrast to streets filled with almendrones, bicycles, and Soviet cars that are over half a century old.
