The Conducta Dade project raised awareness on social media about the case of Adalberto Martínez Rubier, a Cuban from Pinar del Río who lives on the streets of Orlando (Florida) without family or documents, after being discharged from the hospital a few days ago following a brain surgery.
"A few days ago, he was discharged from the hospital after a very delicate brain surgery, where they found clots and a tumor. Since then, he has been living alone on the streets of Orlando, without family, without documents, and without anyone to care for him," published Conducta Dade on their official profiles.
According to the group, Adalberto "has paralysis in one hand and one foot, depends on a wheelchair, and cannot take care of himself." For years, he practiced boxing, but he is currently "in an extremely vulnerable situation."
In the video shared by the project itself, the young man pleads for help with evident distress and says: “Friend, I sincerely ask if you can help me; I can’t move my foot or my hand. I’m not asking for money or wealth, just for someone to genuinely help me.”
Who helps him, identified as Alexis, explained that the young man “has no family, no papers, and no way to return to Cuba” and requested support for any organization or individual that could provide him with shelter or medical care. “Gentlemen, I kindly ask that you help us with this young man. He has just come out of the hospital, has no family, and no one to turn to. He cannot walk or fend for himself. We are looking for an organization that can take care of him,” he stated.
The message from Conducta Dade concludes with a call for solidarity: “This video is made in the hope that your family, friends, or anyone who knows you can see it and offer support (...). No one should face something like this completely alone.”
The case has also spread on TikTok, where Conducta Dade shared the same message accompanied by tags like #Orlando, #solidarity, and #Miami. The post generated numerous supportive comments and proposals to help Adalberto.
Some users asked to organize a collection or find accommodation and wrote: "To my Cubans who are fighting here in the USA, let's help, he could be any one of us."
Others proposed facilitating their return to Cuba: “I think the best option would be to arrange for their return along with their family, if any organization could assist.”
Meanwhile, some considered that the most urgent thing would be to find him medical assistance in the United States: "For a person like him, there are aid programs and centers with 24-hour care."
The case of Adalberto has sparked a wave of solidarity among Cubans both inside and outside the country. Conducta Dade is keeping the contact information of the young man and his companion Alexis visible to directly channel any support that could improve their situation.
