The story of Mari Mesa (@mari.mesa71), a Cuban newly arrived in the United States, has captivated thousands on TikTok with her joy and gratitude for a small but lovely gesture. From Houston, Texas, this Cuban shared that when her shift ended at a restaurant, her boss surprised all the kitchen workers with a Christmas gift.

“After work, I rushed over quickly because I have to go to the other one, but I’m excited because the owner of the restaurant gave us a little gift,” Mari said with laughter while showing a decorated card. Upon opening it, she discovered a 100-dollar bill. “Oh God, I knew it was money, but not how much… look at this. Something is better than nothing,” she said happily, before confessing: “I’m excited with my hundred dollars already.”

Her sincere and humble reaction touched the hearts of hundreds of people. “What a beautiful gesture, may God multiply it for you,” wrote one follower. “Your attitude is the sweetest; there are those who complain about little things, and you give thanks with all your heart,” commented another. Mari responded to almost everyone with the same kindness: “I am very grateful.”

The Cuban also mentioned that her boss, a woman of Asian descent, is very generous with her employees. And when someone told her that such gestures are becoming rare, she responded with a phrase that went viral: "It should be this way in every job!"

Her video, which has already amassed thousands of views, has become a reminder that small gestures can brighten significant efforts. Mari, who works two jobs to get by, ended her video with a smile and a simple yet profound phrase: "Something is something."
