The Cuban comedian Ulises Toirac updated his health status on Thursday and, true to his style, did so by combining irony, transparency, and a sharp humor that remains intact even during his recovery process.

In a post on Facebook, the artist stated that he remains "well," even though chikungunya continues to challenge him.

"For those who have asked: I'm doing well!" he began.

According to his account, the virus is "comfortably settled" in the neck, shoulders, and spine, with a "special fondness" for the hernias he suffers from between the L4 and L5 vertebrae.

He described waking up at "100% charge" as if he were a phone battery, but by nine at night, his body demands to shut down: "It's time to recharge or you'll be out of commission."

Toirac also reported that he is recovering well from the intravitreal injection he received in his left eye, a treatment he undergoes periodically to slow the progression of macular degeneration, a condition that was diagnosed in 2023.

He revealed that he spent two days with a lot of pain and burning. He added that, due to the photophobia he experienced, he even came to "appreciate" the power outages that "the UNE graciously provided in consideration of my condition."

Nevertheless, he wanted to conclude the idea with a clarification to the company: "It's over now, UNE. Did you hear me?"

The comedian also shared an anecdote about the Rubik's Cube featured in the image accompanying the post.

According to what he said, his physiotherapist sent it to him when he asked how long it would take to recover from chikungunya. The response was to hand him the object and say, "when you can make the first round with this thing."

"I, who can hardly take my inseparable neighbor from downstairs out to urinate properly," joked the actor, reiterating that the illness continues to affect his mobility and energy.

Ulises closed his message by thanking his followers for their concern: "I'm like the country," he stated.

A stark picture narrated with dark humor

In mid-November, Toirac confirmed that he had contracted chikungunya, a mosquito-borne disease that has become common in Cuba amid the current health crisis.

"I finally fell. I'm in style now," he said, after which he received hundreds of messages of support.

In a later post, he transformed his daily experience with the illness into a raw and humorous account titled "Diary of a Chikungunya Sufferer".

There, she described debilitating joint pain, fever, extreme fatigue, and the feeling that her body had aged decades.

"I liked it when I was 62. Being 135 is a total mess," he/she wrote.

He detailed everyday situations—getting up to go to the bathroom, making coffee, taking a shower, or even unscrewing the coffee maker—that became exhausting challenges due to pain and weakness.

Each joint protested, every gesture turned into a monumental effort, and even sleeping happened whether one wanted it or not, due to extreme fatigue.

The comedian even recounted how he relied on his dog Lía to prepare coffee, as she had to hold the coffee maker while he attempted to open it with weakened hands.

Its publication, filled with vivid imagery and dark humor, clearly illustrated the real impact of the virus, which turns daily routine into a painful obstacle course.

Today, although he continues to struggle with the symptoms, Toirac assures that he is recovering and maintains the irony that defines him.
