The heavy rainfall recorded since Thursday night caused flooding and damage in the municipality of Remedios, in the province of Villa Clara, where two people had to be evacuated and the area of Guanabanabo remains isolated at this time.
According to the report published on the Facebook page NuestroRemedios, by 10:30 a.m. this Friday significant amounts of rain had accumulated in various areas of the municipality:
Remedios: 90.1 mm
Buenavista: 76.5 mm
Heriberto Duquesne: 74.0 mm
Zulueta: 50.4 mm
General Carrillo: 15.6 mm
Ariosa Remates: 14.5 mm
The heavy rains caused flooding in low-lying areas, difficulties in accessing several communities, and a temporary disruption of land communication with Guanabanabo.
Authorities activate response to the emergency
Municipal authorities reported that they remain in constant communication with the population and in ongoing coordination with provincial bodies, with the aim of ensuring resources and support in response to the weather situation.
According to the report, all response structures are activated in the municipality, prioritizing the protection of human life and immediate attention to potential impacts on housing, infrastructure, and basic services.
From the early hours of the morning, the main political and government authorities of Remedios are conducting tours and assessments of the damage caused by the rains.
Call to the population
Authorities urged residents to stay informed through official channels and to strictly follow the guidelines of Civil Defense, especially in areas prone to flooding.
The released images show a municipality with flooded streets and water accumulation after a night marked by persistent rain, while monitoring and response efforts to the event continue.
More than 900 evacuated and two communities isolated due to flooding in Villa Clara
Last Saturday, December 14, the flooding caused in Villa Clara by the intense rains forced the evacuation of more than 900 residents from the municipalities of Sagua la Grande and Cifuentes.
Also, due to the damage to bridges, the towns of Larrondo and Mariana Grajales remain isolated, the latter having nearly two thousand residents, reported the state-run Cuban News Agency.
