The floods caused this Saturday in Villa Clara by the heavy rains forced the evacuation of more than 900 residents from the municipalities of Sagua la Grande and Cifuentes.

Furthermore, due to the destruction of bridges, the towns of Larrondo and Mariana Grajales remain isolated, the latter having nearly two thousand residents, reported this Sunday by the Cuban News Agency.

In Sagua la Grande, 17 people are staying in evacuation centers and 689 are sheltered in the homes of family or friends, while in Cifuentes, over 200 residents are in a similar situation, according to the information.

The Mártires del 9 de Abril Hospital in Sagua la Grande was affected by flooding, and on Saturday night efforts were being made to drain the area using specialized equipment.

On Saturday, the most significant accumulations were 156 millimeters (mm) in Sitiecito, 91.8 mm at the Alacranes reservoir, and 54 mm in the city of Sagua la Grande.

For its part, the Alacranes dam remained at 68.2 percent of its capacity, posing no immediate danger; however, the section of the Alacranes-Pavón main canal toward the town of Viana is vulnerable due to heavy runoff, the report concludes.

The state journalist Henry Omar Pérez, who has reported on-site about the actions of the government authorities, showcased images this Sunday of the damage caused by the phenomenon to homes in the affected areas.
