The owners of a café in Marianao, Havana, reported the theft committed by an individual in their business during the early hours of this Monday, while they were at a hospital with their sick son.
The images captured by the security camera of the house where the private café operates, sent by the owners to the influencer Saúl Manuel, show the thief entering the doorway, from which, in just a few minutes, he steals a box full of products.
"This happened today at three-thirty in the morning at my house. I have a café in the front. That small business is the only support for my family," wrote the owner in a message in which he denounces the robbery at the establishment while he and his wife were at the hospital with their son.
"Misfortunes come in pairs; everything that is happening is very painful." he lamented.
In the video, a young man -dressed in shorts, a pullover, and a cap- is seen arriving at the house at 3:34 a.m. He uses a key -which could be a master key or a copy of the original- to unlock the gate and enters with complete calmness and without raising any suspicions, as if he were in his own home.
Five minutes later, she comes out with a plastic box full of various packaged products and places it on a bench on the sidewalk. She goes back inside and immediately brings out a second box which, among other things, contains packs of cigarettes.
For a few seconds, he seems unsure about his next steps. At that moment, a person walks by on the street, but the thief, undeterred by their presence, places the second box on the seat as well and begins to select and transfer some of its contents into the other.
Then, he goes back in to leave the last half-empty box and exits, slightly closing the gate, which ends up remaining open. Only seven minutes have passed since his arrival, during which he has carried out the theft with complete control and without haste.
The robbed café is located on 33rd Street between 104 and 106 in Marianao. The owner has requested that anyone who identifies the thief contact him at the number 50540758.
In the post, hundreds of users expressed concern over the relentless increase in thefts and violent assaults, and the lack of effective action from the police.
Most commented on the complete impunity with which criminals act, sheltered by the negligence of the authorities and with the assurance that they might not be arrested for their misdeeds, even when they have been recorded by security cameras.
In light of the increase in crime in the country, it has become common for homeowners and private businesses to install surveillance systems to record evidence of thefts or other criminal acts of which they are victims.
On social media, reports of similar incidents like the one that occurred this Monday in Havana are frequent, reflecting the growing insecurity in the country. In several recent assaults, the criminals have ruthlessly attacked the residents of the homes, resulting in serious injuries and even death.
