The 15-year-old teenager from the municipality of Yaguajay in the province of Sancti Spíritus passed away this Tuesday after being hospitalized for several days due to the severe injuries he sustained in early December.

According to the official outlet Escambray, the minor died at the José Luis Miranda Pediatric Hospital in Villa Clara, where he was receiving hemodialysis treatment. Dr. Ramón Aquino Lorenzo, director of the Pediatric Hospital in Sancti Spíritus, explained that the death was due to “crushing of almost all the organs in the abdominal cavity, including the kidneys,” which led to kidney failure.

The young man had undergone surgery at the Joaquín Paneca Municipal Hospital in Yaguajay and was subsequently treated at the José Martí Pérez Pediatric Hospital in Sancti Spíritus. Last Friday, he was transferred to the José Luis Miranda Pediatric Hospital in Villa Clara to receive hemodialysis treatment, where he remained in the intensive care unit until his passing.

According to the official version released by Escambray and sources from the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), the teenager was injured after falling from a wall while attempting to pick guavas. Authorities noted that the young man lost his balance and fell onto a fibrocement tank, and that no signs of violence or involvement of third parties were found at the scene.

The first medical reports about the child's condition were released by the José Martí Pérez Pediatric Hospital in Sancti Spíritus, which explained that the patient was in critical but stable condition. Later, local authorities clarified that it was an accidental incident and ruled out any signs of violence, as stated in a second statement.

However, on social media, messages have circulated that cast doubt on this version. The Cuban activist publicly mourned the young man's death and denounced the lack of clarity regarding the circumstances of the case. In her post, she wrote that “contradictory versions about the causes have circulated” and that “family members and close individuals have raised concerns about the possibility that this involves much more serious events, a hypothesis that has so far not been clarified officially or publicly.”

Broek also expressed his sorrow over the death of the teenager, whom he identified as Josué, and stated that the event has shaken the community of Espíritu Santo. In his message, he emphasized that the lack of official explanations "has intensified the community's demand for justice" and extended condolences to the young man's family and friends.

Another post shared on social media, by someone who identified themselves as a relative of the minor, also expressed sorrow for the loss and included a message that has sparked concern among users. In her text, the author asked God that whoever caused suffering to the young man "suffers as well," words that many interpreted as an implication that the teenager could have been a victim of an intentional act.

Since the beginning of the case, the José Martí Pérez Pediatric Hospital in Sancti Spíritus had denied the rumors of sexual abuse circulating on social media and clarified that the patient was in critical but stable condition, with no signs of aggression. The official press maintained that it was an accidental incident, while on social media, demands persisted to clarify the causes of the injuries.

Following the news of the passing, numerous posts on social media have conveyed messages of empathy and sorrow to the teenager's family and shared images in his memory. From our editorial team, we extend our deepest condolences to the minor's family and loved ones.
