The morning of this Monday was marked by mourning in Palma Soriano, in the province of Santiago de Cuba, following the news of the death of an eight-year-old girl in an accident on the Pilar road, an event that has caused turmoil among neighbors and residents of the area.
According to testimonies shared on social media, the minor was heading to school in a wheelbarrow when she was struck by a milk truck traveling along that road.
Several people agree that the heavy vehicle may have experienced a mechanical failure, presumably related to the steering rod, which caused the driver to lose control.
As a result of the impact, the girl died at the scene. Others were also injured in the accident, including a boy who suffered minor injuries and is out of danger, and a woman, identified by neighbors as the mother, who sustained a skull fracture and was urgently transferred to a hospital in Santiago de Cuba.
Residents in the area claim that the minor lived in the Military Community and that the incident has deeply affected both the family and the community.
So far, no official statement has been released by the authorities regarding the incident, which means that the available information comes from accounts of witnesses and people close to the scene of the accident.
CiberCuba continues to await official information that will clarify the exact circumstances of this tragic event.
