The Cuban content creator Daniela Méndez Cordoví, known on social media as @maruja_medica, made one of the most touching gestures this Christmas Eve in Cuba.
In a video published on December 24, the young woman showcased how she prepared and distributed food to vulnerable people on the streets of Havana, with the aim of giving them a moment of joy amidst the challenging situation the country is facing.
“There's nothing more to say... a picture is worth a thousand words. Merry Christmas to all my Cubans. It was hard to make this video... but I take with me the best of this day,” Daniela expressed in the post.
The images depict the creator and her family delivering plates of food to elderly individuals and homeless people, many of whom are in extremely vulnerable conditions. Some could barely stand, but they did not hide their emotion upon receiving the act of solidarity.
Users highlighted the young woman's sensitivity and empathy, emphasizing the significance of her example during a Christmas marked by blackouts, scarcity, and shortages affecting thousands of Cuban families.
"What a beautiful gesture, it brought me to tears," wrote one of the internet users, while others expressed their gratitude for the initiative and praised the work of his family, especially his father, a neurologist, who was also described as "a great human being."
In a context where Christmas celebrations have been overshadowed by the crisis, the gesture of @maruja_medica becomes a symbol of hope and humanity that many Cubans quickly recognized and shared.
