"Forget the blackouts, forget chikungunya": Cubans sing in unison in Río Cauto after a political event

"PRIORIZING 'The blackouts over there, the chikungunya over there': Cubans chant in unison in Río Cauto after a political event"

What began as an official event for the 67th anniversary of the Revolution's triumph in the municipality of Río Cauto, in Granma province, ended up turning into an episode that has generated reactions and ridicule on social media.

The event concluded with a performance on stage by the Super Charanga of Cuba, during which the attendees sang choruses about the health crisis on the island.

"Dengue over there, chikungunya over there, mother-in-law over there," the attendees chanted while dancing.

The scene was captured in a live broadcast conducted by the official page Comunicador Cultura Río Cauto on Facebook.

The event was presented by the organizers as a display of "shared joy" and "victory," despite the serious energy, economic, and health crisis in the country.

Numerous users on social media criticized the celebrations in a context of public discontent, due to prolonged power outages, outbreaks of dengue and chikungunya, and shortages of food and medicine.

"Those who debate the most and keep on debating find it useless. Keep debating and paying tribute, but don’t start planting potatoes, sweet potatoes, or pumpkins, because in 2026 you'll be starving. Cuba is and will be a COMPLETE FAILED STATE; prepare for what’s coming. Fight for your freedom and don’t waste any more time because life is just one; you’ve been living the same lie of the terrorist PCC for 67 years, and things are getting worse every day with no hope for anything!" commented an internet user on the official post.
