The end of the year in the city of Matanzas is marked by the interruptions in the water supply: some areas of the city have been without water for over a week.
"La Playa in Matanzas is once again without water," denounced the official journalist Roberto Pérez Betancourt, a resident of that popular council in the city of Yumurí.
"Over the phone, they stated that they only have two engines. No one clarifies what happened to the often-broken engine number one, the one that ensured the necessary pressure. Later, they said they had three small ones to alternate the pumping. Today they say they only have two," he explained.
Other complaints on Facebook were posted in the Provincial Government of Matanzas group.
"Who do we blame for the fact that a week ago in Matanzas Este there wasn't a drop of water? You call the water department and they mention the power outage while the people suffer as always from the incompetence of the leaders. I don't understand the recognition they received if Matanzas is in such a dire state, not even for the lions. Solve the problems, we are worse off than ever," denounced Yahima Jiménez Nuñez.
Despite citizen complaints, no official source has provided information about the causes of the shortages, which have become a regular occurrence for the people of Matanzas.
In October, videos shared on social media showed residents from various neighborhoods turning to sewers and drainage channels to obtain water for cooking, bathing, or cleaning.
In one of the clips shared by the user @paquitovlogs777 on Instagram, a group of people is seen filling buckets and bottles from an unsanitary ditch, while others warn that "there are no other options left."
"The water shortage has worsened to such an extent that people have to resort to sewage systems to obtain this resource," reported the creator in his post, which went viral under the hashtag #Cuba #Today.
