The traffic data from CiberCuba in 2025 not only reveals which phones our readers are using, but it also clearly reflects a significant technological gap between Cubans browsing from the Island and those doing so from abroad.
This analysis compares two completely different digital realities, based on actual usage data.
Source of the data and scope of the study
The study is based on information from Google Analytics 2025 from CiberCuba, specifically from the report "Tech details: Device model", which records the mobile devices users use to access the site.
The analyzed period spans from January 1 to December 29, 2025 and is divided into two main groups:
- Users in Cuba: 7.3 million
- Users outside of Cuba: 15.2 million
In total, more than 22.5 million user records were analyzed.
It is important to clarify that this figure does not represent absolute unique users. Google Analytics identifies users through a device identifier that has a limited retention (by default, two months) and can be reset if the device changes, cookies are deleted, or there is an extended period of inactivity. Therefore, the data should be interpreted as users measured by device and period, which is especially relevant in the Cuban context.
Nevertheless, the analyzed volume is extensive and consistent, allowing for a clear identification of the actual patterns of device usage.
Cuba: Affordable Androids, Old Models, and Limited Upgrades
The traffic coming from Cuba is almost entirely dominated by low-end Android phones, primarily manufactured by brands such as Xiaomi, Tecno, and even Samsung in their basic models. Older and more affordable devices account for the majority of access.
This reflects a reality known to Cubans themselves: people use the phone they can get, not necessarily the one they want. Access to modern devices is limited, and the renewal of equipment is slow, dictated by high prices and the scarce availability in the local market.
Apple, a global leader in the high-end market, has a very limited presence on the Island. The iPhone remains a luxury for a minority, constrained by unaffordable prices and the economic crisis affecting the country.
Outside of Cuba: the iPhone as the dominant standard
The landscape changes radically when observing the traffic from outside of Cuba. Within the diaspora and among the international audience, Apple clearly dominates.
The iPhone is not only the most used device, but it also accounts for a proportion of traffic unlike any other model on the Island. Furthermore, the latest high-end models, such as the iPhone Pro and Pro Max from recent generations, stand out.
Samsung ranks second among users abroad, with a range of modern and high-performance devices. Other brands like Xiaomi or Motorola have a much smaller presence.
