According to preliminary investigations, the ambulance experienced a mechanical failure that caused the engine to stop while it was on the tracks, leaving it immobilized and subsequently struck by locomotive 38269.

The train had departed promptly at 9:00 a.m. from the 19 de Noviembre station in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality and was heading to Pinar del Río with three passenger cars.

Despite the material damages suffered by the ambulance, authorities confirmed that there were no reported injuries among the passengers or crew of the train, nor among the ambulance personnel. No damage was recorded to the locomotive, the cars, or the railway infrastructure.

Local government authorities, representatives from the railway sector, and the Ministry of the Interior promptly arrived at the accident site, working together to restore circulation.

Thanks to the quick intervention, the train was able to resume its journey at 3:05 p.m., a little over two hours after the incident.

The Cuban Railway Union expressed regret for what happened and apologized to travelers for the inconveniences caused.
