Cuban government confirms upcoming public holidays



The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) announced a break in work activities in the country on December 31, January 1, and 2, and confirmed the sectors that will continue to operate.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) of Cuba announced on Tuesday the labor and salary provisions for the upcoming holidays in Cuba.

An official note from the state agency announced a break in work activities in the country on December 31, January 1, and January 2.

The MTSS reminded that, according to what is established by Law 116 of December 20, 2013, "Labor Code," December 31 and January 2 of each year are holidays, and January 1 is declared a "national commemoration day."

He clarified that work activities in the sugar harvest and other urgent agricultural tasks, continuous production process industries, and urgent loading and unloading operations will not be interrupted.

Transportation services and their essential technical support, hospital and welfare services, pharmacies, fuel dispensaries, funeral homes, related gardens, and cemeteries are also not subject to closure; as well as accommodation services, tourist centers, communications, radio and television broadcasting, basic public services, fishing activities, and other activities authorized by law.

Restaurants, cafeterias, public shows, grocery trade, and other activities related to food preparation and sales to the public will remain operational during the hours set by national authorities. Meanwhile, non-state entities providing these services will operate during the hours authorized for them, it was specified.

The MTSS pointed out that the salary will be paid in the manner established by Article 111 of Law 116 "Labor Code".

"The workers who are taking paid annual leave, unpaid leave, social security benefits, or salary guarantees as provided by law continue to receive such benefits," he specified.
