Cuba is preparing to bid farewell to the year under a distinctly wintry weather scenario, especially in the western half of the country.
Experts agree that December 31 will be influenced by the arrival of a cold front, which will lead to a significant drop in temperatures, an increase in north winds, and changes in sea conditions.
The meteorologist Raydel Ruisanchez explained that, during the days leading up to the end of the month, the Cuban territory remains under the influence of migratory high pressures, responsible for maintaining a dry and stable air mass.
In this context, the chances of rain will remain low, with the possibility of very isolated precipitation.
Maximum temperatures will continue to fall within a range considered pleasant and slightly warm, with a greater emphasis on the eastern part of the country, while minimum temperatures will remain cool in the early mornings.

However, the situation will change with the arrival of a new cold front moving through the Gulf of Mexico. This system will start to move on Monday, December 29, and is expected to reach the western region of Cuba between December 30 and 31.
The mass of air accompanying this front will cause a temperature drop that will signify the end of the year.
According to Ruisanchez, the last day of the year will have a winter-like character in the western half of the country, with the possibility of recording the lowest temperatures of the season so far.
Although the cold front will arrive weakened, it will increase the chances of rain during the end of the day on the 30th and the early hours of the 31st.
Nevertheless, the precipitation associated with this system is not expected to be significant.
Starting from December 31, there will again be high migration pressures originating from the continental region.
This atmospheric setup will lead to an increase in the strength of winds coming from the north and a rise in wave activity along the northern coast.
In addition, the cold air mass will begin to make its presence felt more strongly, causing a significant drop in maximum temperatures during that day in the western part of the country.
Ruisanchez has warned that, although it will still be a few days before more accurate figures are available, all indications suggest a very cold end and beginning of the year for that area of Cuba.
In the same vein, Christian Muñiz, a Meteorology student at the University of Havana, noted that the last cold front of the year will arrive in Cuba precisely on December 31, bringing a mass of cool air with low associated rainfall activity.
According to their forecast, the country will welcome 2026 with a decrease in temperatures and without significant rainfall.
The consensus among specialists reinforces the expectation that the last day of the year will be characterized by a cold atmosphere, especially in western Cuba, where an increase in northern winds and changes in sea conditions will also be felt.
