The Cuban Customs detected 2 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a speaker carried by a passenger at Havana Airport, according to reported on social media by Wiliam Pérez González, deputy head of Customs.

The official indicated that the operation was thwarted thanks to the "coordinated and effective" work between Customs and the anti-drug agency, which allowed for the arrest of those involved.

The official report did not specify the identities of those involved or the final destination of the shipment.

However, he assured that the case is still under investigation and is part of the strengthening of controls at the entry points to the country.

According to the information released, the drug was hidden inside the audio equipment (the speaker), a method that takes advantage of everyday objects to camouflage illegal substances during air transport.

In recent months, Customs has detected an increase in attempts to smuggle synthetic drugs by air, using methods that are "increasingly sophisticated" to evade inspection.

There have been disclosures regarding concealments in hygiene products—such as a tube of body cream—and in items like religious figurines, cans of tuna, and gummy candies.

In parallel, Customs has intensified controls over suspicious currency movements, as demonstrated by a recent case of alleged money laundering during an aerial inspection, revealing a possible link between drug trafficking and illegal capital flow.

Even seemingly minor actions, such as the detection of tobacco in prohibited quantities, are investigated as potential covers for smuggling operations or the concealment of illegal substances.
