A video posted on TikTok by creator Gracie Fando (@itss._.graci) has sparked laughter and nostalgia among thousands of Cuban users — as well as among foreigners who have ever visited Miami or been surrounded by Cubans. In the clip, a group of Cubans appears to be gesticulating, speaking over each other, and using their hands in what, to someone unfamiliar with the context, might seem like a heated argument. But in reality, they were just "having a conversation."
The video, which has already garnered thousands of views, was humorously shared by the user, who clarified in the comments that the conversation "was about which part of Cuba was better." However, the scene went viral because it perfectly reflects the passionate way in which Cubans communicate, especially when several are gathered around the same table.
“It seems like they're fighting, but they're just talking,” wrote one user, while another commented with laughter: “I went to Miami and it was like that.” In the comments, there were plenty of those who could completely relate to the scene: “If there’s no hand-waving, there’s no Cuban who respects themselves,” joked one. “My American husband thought we were arguing,” added another user.
Among the responses, several foreigners agreed that Cuban gatherings are a unique experience: lots of noise, many hands in the air, and an atmosphere that is as intense as it is joyful. “I didn’t understand anything, but you could feel the energy,” wrote an American.
Gracie Fando, amused by the stir her post caused, promised to upload a second part because, as she said herself, "it's worth it." And she's not wrong: few things better capture the essence of Cubans than a conversation filled with laughter, passion, and lots of hand gestures.
